Still, that does not mean that happy face pins were widely used in the
1960s. I suspect advertising and marketing campaigns picked up the device and the
actual mass-marketing of the pins can be attributed to one of those companies
that mass-produce fountain pens, pencils, and coffee cups with company
names. Even then, you should ask yourselves how and under what circumstances those
little images began popping up?
