I suppose there is a kid in all of us. A few years back, I hired on to a job
monitoring a trenching machine that ran through the older 19th century
portion of downtown and the City of San Diego felt that rail spikes and horse
shoes needed a trash pit, privy, or architecture to be worthy of recovery. So, I
dutifully recorded the location of each lone rail spike, bagged, and tagged
them and donated the lot to Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO) for
educational programs. I just could not bring myself to toss them back in the trench.
Maybe the 10-year old kid in my provided something fun for the kids who visit
SOHO.
