What part of NV are you talking about?? There was a large ore hauling operation out of the Death Valley area to Los Angeles that was run by a guy named Remi Nadeau. He was quite the buisness guy and I believe that he also operated in Nevada for a period of time.

Since you are BLM, I would check with the Ridgecrest Field Office of the California Desert District about information on Remi and his operations. Remi's great grandson is a historian who has included his grandfather's operations in several books he authored about the historic mining and water exploitation of the northern portion of the Mojave Desert. You sould be able to google his books. At the very least, Remi's operations might be a nice comparison to the "Nevada System of Ore Hauling".

  Hope that helped.

  Hello -

Has anyone on this list ever encountered the phrase "Nevada System of Ore
Hauling?"

This practice is referred to in an 1881 mining company report from AZ,
which appears to be their practice for hauling from mine to mill.

I have looked in several old mining books, but the term does not appear.

It is probably some type of professional jargon, but I wonder if there was
some special technique/practice for the arrangement or operation of
mule-drawn ore wagons that was unique to NV at this time?

Does anyone here know how to contact Don Hardesty these days? I hear Don
retired.
