I understand Mike Polk did some work on the roundhouse at Golden Spike National Historic Site. I don't think it dates to the driving of the Golden Spike (1869), but sometime later, probably during your period of interest. You can find Mike at sageb@

I am looking for information on previous archaeological excavations of
railroad roundhouses or repair shops. My prefered area of interest is
late 19th to 20th century North Aemrican, but information from other
