Hello to all who are interested.
The article described sounds similar to the PISEC project conducted with four
institutions in Philly. There were three publications to come of this project
and Minda Borun was an author on all three. The project aimed to ~"conduct
research and exhibit development aimed at increasing understanding of family
learning in science museums and identify the characteristics of successful
family learning exhibits. The three papers followed the three phases of the
projects: 1) lit review to establish indicators of family learning, 2)
development and eval of 4 exhibits that employ the 7 characteristics (listed
below), and 3) a research study of the impact of the enhanced exhibits. I know
the citation for the second phase is:
Borun, M., & Dritsas, J. (1997). Developing family-friendly exhibits. Curator,
40(3), 178-192.
The seven characteristics are: multi-sided, multi-user, accessible, multi-modal,
multi-outcome, readable, and relevant.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Toni Dancu
