Except that Haydn did it so much better than his contemporaries. In my
book, his superb architecture and improvisatory/rhetorical style easily
places him among the great composers for the keyboard.

And Bach derives from Sweelinck, Scheidemann, and Buxtehude. Actually,
the music of all composers, particularly in their early compositional
years, borrows from earlier models. Also, I never heard any music from
Chopin without a tonal center.
