Wye Hall Archaeology Scholarship

Announcement For Release - Please forward to undergraduate
anthropology majors.
May 8, 2006

The University of Maryland College Park and the owners of Wye Hall
are pleased to announce a scholarship that is available to one
undergraduate student, who will participate in the University’s
archaeology field school in Annapolis and Talbot County during the
summer of 2006. The scholarship reflects appreciation and
recognition of the archeological work performed by the University
and supported by the owners over the past several years at Wye
Hall. The student who is selected to receive this scholarship must
enroll in ANTH 496 (field methods in archaeology) during Summer
Session I 2006, June 5 to July 14, and must be able to attend the
full six-week term. The scholarship for $5000.00 will cover
tuition for the course and provide a stipend for living expenses.
It is not necessary to be a student at the University of Maryland
to apply, and students who are already enrolled in ANTH 496 are
encouraged to apply for this scholarship as well.

Applications will be considered from undergraduates who have
demonstrated academic merit by maintaining a GPA of at least 3.5
from his/her home institution. In awarding this scholarship,
preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated a
commitment to archaeology through previous coursework, volunteer
activities and/or work experiences in archaeology. Applications
should consist of a brief essay limited to 500 words, or two
double-spaced pages, describing the applicant’s archaeological
commitments. An official transcript must accompany the
application.

More information on this archaeological field school can be found at
the following web site: http://www.bsos.umd.edu/anth/aia/school.htm.

Applications must be received by Friday, May 26, 2006, and should
include the current mailing address, telephone, and email contact
information for the applicant.

Applications should be addressed to and mailed to:
