Our museum is in the process of finalizing production of a software program--Cosmos-- that tracks volunteer hours via a centrally located computer. It's extremely user friendly, automatically logs hours, creates a database to log detailed volunteer information for reports and data collection and more. We've been utilizing the program for a while, and recently received a patent to produce and make it available to other museums and organizations that utilize volunteers. Cost is only $350 for this comprehensive, ready to use software. To see a sample, visit our MySpace page at

Subject: Volunteers punching in?

I am the Volunteer Coordinator of the Lancaster Science Factory in
Lancaster PA. We are getting ready to open our doors to the public
on Jan 22 and getting ready to do volunteer training. We thought
that getting a time clock would make documenting hours easier but
some of our people think that it might make the volunteers feel that
we don't trust them and should just use a log book instead. What is
the general practice? Is this an insult to the volunteers?
Your wisdom is appreciated!
Thanks,
Evanna
