Rachel,
The most commonly encountered Glasgow pipe makers are McDougall and Murray. The "Glasgow" as opposed to "Scotland" gives a pre-1891 McKinley Tariff Act date. Duncan McDougall operated in Glasgow from roughly 1846-1870 before various name changes. William Murray operated from 1830-1861. Also, there was Alexander Coghill (1826-1904) and William White (1805-1955).
As for the stamping style "Glasgow pipes normally carry the maker’s name in block capitals on the stem, at times enclosed by a rope frame. The name is generally incuse and mould imparted, the frame in relief" (Walker 1977:344).
See anything by Walker, Iain C. (“Clay Tobacco-pipes, with Particular Reference to the Bristol Industry,”) or Adrian Oswald ("Clay pipes for the archaeologist") for good reference material.
Based upon my lurking on the list I assume that Smoke can provide a great deal more info than I can.
