Dear Histarh,
I received some sad news yesterday. Historian, MacArthur award winner,
and Berkeley/George Mason University professor Lawrence Levine, passed
away this weekend. A recent thread mentioned his most famous work, Black
Culture, Black Consciousness, a must read for any researcher of African
American history. I was fortunate enough to have taken a Cultural History
course from Dr. Levine while a grad student at GMU. He was very
influential personally and throughout historical disciplines. He will be
missed. His family asks that anyone considering sending flowers instead
make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
