Or synthesizers. That's happening now and not just in commercials. Also
movie soundtracks and even live theater. I rarely go to live musicals,
but when I went to a revival of Carousel, I asked if they were using a full
orchestra, orchestra and synthesizer, or synthesizer. The answer was #2.
The sound was barely okay but no more than that. I know a lot of musicians
who have lost theater gigs because of synthesizers.
For commercials? Synthesizer and chorus, though I guess you can synth
choruses by now. (I used to marvel at how many choruses they'd use in
commercials.) These days, the two greatest entertainment inventions I know
are the VCR fast forward and the mute switch. I NEVER listen to or watch
commericials. It's a religion to me, and I recommend it to all and sundry.
Usually, I take shows. When I watch live, I mute or surf.
