The American Chamber Ensemble Presents Gala 40th Anniversary Celebration
Concert On March 20 At Hofstra University - Concert Features Mozart and
Schumann Selections From 1965 Concert and Music by Haskell Small and
Benjamin Lees

The American Chamber Ensemble will present a very special Gala 40th
Anniversary Concert on Sunday, March 20, 2005, at 3 p.m. when the Music
Department of Hofstra University presents ACE at the University's Monroe
Lecture Center Theater on California Avenue in Hempstead.  Visit their

Repertoire for this concert will include Mozart's Quintet for clarinet
and strings in A Major, K.  581 and Schumann's Quintet for piano and
strings, both of which were performed at the American Chamber Ensemble's
first concert on January 22, 1965.  Other works to be performed will be
Haskell Small's Twelve Snippets for flute, clarinet, cello and piano and
the New York Premiere of Benjamin Lees' Tapestry for flute, clarinet,
cello and piano.  This 40th Anniversary work was jointly commissioned
by ACE, Pacific Serenades of California, the Contemporary Chamber Players
of Utah, and the Mallarme Chamber Ensemble of North Carolina and celebrates
the 2005 Festival of Long Island Composers,

This concert will also celebrate the new release of ACE's new Elysium
CD, The American Chamber Ensemble Plays Peter Schickele.  More about it

joins their previous Elysium release - American Clarinet Treasures,
featuring core members of ACE performing works by George Kleinsinger,
Virgil Thomson, Daniel Gregory Mason, Elliott Carter, Douglas Moore and
Gary Schocker, with Guest Artist Stanley Drucker

Tickets for the March 20 concert are available at the Hofstra University
Box Office for $10 ($8 senior citizens 65+ and non-Hofstra students).

Performers for this concert will be the Directors of the American
Chamber Ensemble, pianist Blanche Abram and clarinetist Naomi Drucker,
who will be joined by pianist Marilyn Sherman Lehman, violinist Eriko
Sato, violist Lois Martin, and cellist William Grubb, flutist Patricia
Spencer and special guest violinist Carol Feuer, a founding member of
ACE.

The American Chamber Ensemble explores the great chamber music literature
for clarinet and piano in combination with strings, woodwinds and voice
and presents performances featuring world-class artists.  ACE consists
of the finest freelance musicians in the New York area and has been cited
by critics for their superb presentations of chamber masterworks.

ACE concerts are supported by the Hofstra Music Department, and assisted
with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state
agency, and private contributions.
