Dear Colleagues,
I would like to organize a symposium entitled "Archaeology Along the Santa Fe Trail" for the 2008 SHA conference in Albuquerque. I am requesting paper submissions that discuss sites and topics associated with the Santa Fe Trail, stretching from Missouri to New Mexico. Examples of research can include:
1) Wagon ruts and camp sites
2) Forts and trading posts
3) Farmsteads
4) Towns
5) Native American villages and contact
6) Trade networks and material culture
7) Government relations and treaties
8) Cultural/Political boundaries and identity
9) Natural resources and exploration
10) Westward expansion
If you are interested, please contact me by May 15 with a title and abstract. If there is enough interest, I will then notify respondents with further registration details. The conference deadline for submissions is June 15.
