Greetings all,
I am posting this request for information on behalf of an historian
colleague whose specialty is in the religious history of the Protestant Reformation
era in Britain and its colonies (ca. early 1500s to mid-1700s).
He is presently working on a study of the physical alterations of churches
during this era, with specific attention on the removal and later
reinstallation of altar rails.
Does anyone know of any church sites of this era that have been excavated in
the early colonial US, Caribbean, or UK where an altar rail was documented?
Any evidence of its potential removal and/or reinstallation would be a
bonus!
Any leads towards potential sources would be greatly appreciated! Please
reply off-list.
Cheers,
Tom Beaman
