Linda,
I can't help specifically with archaeological references, but there was one
outstanding historical paper by Andrews and Tyler in the periodical,
Pharmacy in History, Vol. 35, No. 2, (1993), pp. 55-64 entitled "Taking the
Waters in Indiana." This paper includes a good historic bibliography with
37 references. In addition, I did some literature on research on 19th
century mineral waters and reviewed the literature on the subject; if you
want a copy of my review, send me your email address. Good luck with your
research.
