We use what we fondly call Her Majesty's Glue: Acrylic Adhesive B72, an
HMG Product out of Manchester England but available here in the States
at places like Conservator's Emporium.  It doesn't require a lot of
adhesive, dries fairly quickly and is reversable.

Dear Histarchers

I am curious..in your own opinion what is the best adhesive for
cross-mending historic ceramics (ironstone, stonewares, etc.).
