Roger Hecht replies to me:

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Deryk Barker for recommending the
Elgar/Harrison recording. I had avoided hearing Elgar's own recordings,
mostly because I want sonic opulence beyond what 78s provide. But I
splurged on the Elgar set and am not sorry. A conducting technician he
ain't, but he sure knows his own music.
