Eric Saeden and Margot Rodin are the two soloists on the SSD CD. Saeden
also recorded Dorati's orchestration of eight of the songs. I am in no
way suggesting that Pettersson was a master of lieder - just that the
temperament of these songs *might* find an appreciative audience in someone
who has 70+ recordings of "Winterreise" and might want to try something
along the same lines. But I wouldn't say that Pettersson "didn't know what
he was doing".
