CONSERVATORY ASSISTANT - Job # 076-06
San Marino, California

Regular Limited-Term, Part-Time, Hourly, 22.5 hours per week (3 days per week, Saturday - Monday), $15/hr
Working under the Botanical Education Manager, the Conservatory Assistant assists the Conservatory Coordinator with overseeing daily operations of the Conservatory for Botanical Science.  The Conservatory contains a living plant collection and hands-on activities aimed at engaging families in the practice of science.  Primary emphasis is on delivering excellent and relevant services to the museum's diverse audience through maintaining exhibits in good working order and supporting the volunteers.  This position works in a team environment with other museum professionals and works at two weekend days. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
Reviews and maintains Conservatory exhibits on a daily basis, insuring that exhibits are in good working order and well supplied; Supports exhibits and related programs through producing, procuring, and maintaining Conservatory materials and equipment; Assists the Conservatory Coordinator in supporting Conservatory volunteers; Provides support and direction with regard to their understanding of their role in the Conservatory; Works with other Huntington staff and outside contractors to assure that all exhibits, electronics, and lighting in the galleries are functioning properly; Insures the maintenance of a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for Conservatory visitors, staff and volunteers; Attends and contributes to staff meetings; Keeps up to date with the Huntington's educational programs, membership programs, special events, and other visitor related information; Performs other duties as assigned.  
QUALIFICATIONS 
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are required; Repair and maintenance "know how" is required; Problem-solver attitude is required; Interest in featured plant collections is highly desirable; Professional attitude and appearance are required; Ability to work both independently and within a team is required; Sensitivity to working with diverse audiences is required; Proficient computer knowledge working with computer application programs, such as Word for Windows, Excel, Microsoft Office, electronic mail, etc., is required. Experience: Bachelor degree is highly desirable; Experience with exhibition maintenance or a similar project is required; Familiarity with botany is desirable; Knowledge of computers is required.
