The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation's Digital History Center has two
job openings, one specializing in Historical Archaeology and the other
in Architectural History. Both are full-time, two-year positions
supporting the eWilliamsburg project's second phase, which will result
in an interactive GIS map for studying the growth and development of
Williamsburg, Virginia during the eighteenth century.

The Staff Archaeologist's duties will include assembling and analyzing
documentary materials from previous archaeological excavations to
identify buildings and features for inclusion in the eWilliamsburg
geodatabase. Similarly, the Architectural Historian will assemble and
analyze documentation from the reconstruction and restoration of the
town. Both positions will also conduct primary source research to link
individuals to specific eighteenth-century properties in Williamsburg.
Qualifications:
- Four-year degree with academic specialization in historical
archaeology, history of architecture, or related field
- Advanced research in a museum or an academically related position
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team
- Advanced knowledge of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Virginia and
American history
-Advanced knowledge of computer applications used in historical
research, which may include some or all of the following: database
applications, CAD applications, geographic information systems (GIS),
website design (HTML), text encoding (SGML or XML), statistical software
(SPSS), or computer imaging software (Adobe Photoshop)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in historical archaeology, history of architecture, or
related field
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Access database system, ESRI's suite of
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) products, AutoCAD and collections
management software
