5-6 years ago we paid about $10K for a black and white IR camera.
The false-color ones were about $50K. Manufacturer was FLIR, as I
recall.
I actually preferred the black and white version. People understand
b&w just fine, and quickly get the idea the dark is cool and white is
hot. Having kids do "face-painting" with ice cubes is always a fun
activity. The color camera adds a whole other layer of conceptual
complexity in my opinion.
