In response to Tim's request on green holiday activities:
I just read an article on crafts ideas for green holiday activities in a
family magazine; the idea that resonated the most with me was cutting
out the pretty images on old Christmas cards and glueing them to brown
paper grocery bags to make original gift bags.

Another idea not so related to the holidays, but related to the idea of
water bottles (I haven't seen it advocated much): instead of buying
endless juice boxes and bags for children's lunches and snacks, buy
reusable (dishwasher safe) bottles that can be filled with water,
Gatorade, juice, kool-aid, crystal light, etc (dependent on parent's
views on sugar, natural sugar, and artificial sweetners for their
children). Saves money and keeps the stuff out of the trash.
