Hi everyone,

Our campus Natural Science Museum has asked me to come up with some
simple (1) native animal interpretive displays, as well as (2) "aquatic
insect kits" for rainy days that the kids cannot go out to our outdoor
learning area for our aquatics lab...

SO,

(1) What types of interpretive animal displays have you found "hook"
the kids' interest most? We have grades K-5 going thru the Museum on
field trips; We were thinking one could be types of animal skulls and
have the kids guess, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore?...

We just need simple, great ideas to put in some cases and utilize
museum specimens that get kids thinking (like object-based inquiry),
while groups are transitioning among activities in the Museum...

And,
(2) The 5th grade aquatics lab is normally done outside, but with our
crazy Texas weather that can alter plans... SO we would like some
hands-on indoor activities that model what we do outside (ie
biodiversity index of aquatic insects, "grade the quality of water by
censusing insects...) but that can be put in a kit and taught by a
volunteer or graduate student. Any suggestions on indoor hands-on
aquatic invertebrate activities are welcome!

THANKS in advance for any assistance! Jill
