Hi Jane,

There are several exhibits out there that have used balls to represent water
(e.g. Native Waters @ http://www.nativewaters.org/ and My Home Planet Earth
from the Children's Museum of Houston www.cmhouston.org) You'd have to find
out from them how well the balls "read" to visitors. OMSI recently opened
their Animal Secrets exhibit with a waterless river. Visitors engage in
some very sophisticated imaginative play around the themes of animal homes.

Good luck with your project!

Sara
