I don't know about the technical details of doing this, but it would
seem that sandwiching the image between two sheets of acrylic would be
the best way to keep the transparency itself from getting damaged by
either cutting or use.  One thing to check is whether the saw kerf is
narrow enough to make for a good fit of the pieces after they are cut.
