Jermie,
We don't actually host a science fair here since the state level
competition is held at a local university. Instead, several years ago we
began hosting a Science Fair Recognition Day. Area science fairs award
there state level competitors and then award 2 additional projects as runner
ups or special recognititions for our SFR day. Then the weekend before
state, we host them. Essentially, 2 projects from a school are eligible.
They come to our science center on a Sunday from 1 to 3 pm to share there
achievement with our G.P. and the other parents attending. Each student is
allowed to bring 2 adults for free with them. I usually provide a fancy
certificate and some sort of coupon for some % off in our gift store as
well.
It's grown tremendously over the years and, as of yet, I haven't had
to turn a school away. In fact, some of the students prefer us to the state
competition. he he.

The event is a nice option for those projects/students the teachers want to
still get some recognition for all their hard work.

If your museum is hosting a science fair, what published safety standards
are
you providing the participating students and their schools. LSI would
appreciate receiving a copy of your guidelines.

When schools require science fair participation as part of the curriculum,
they own the liability for what the students do at home and, in part, in
your
museum.

LSI publishes a rules agreement for school science fairs. Copies are
available for free on request. ... Jim
