Our chromakey exhibit is in a small room (gosh...maybe about 150 or 200
sq feet?). One of the advantages of the exhibit being in its own room
is that we can control the lighting better, which is imperative for the
functionality of the chromakey technology.
We've painted a wall Chromakey Green--an actual paint color, labeled
and distributed by Rosco (supplier of light gels and other items for
stage, film and video production).
We use the ubiquitous Videonics brand of video mixer, which is a bit
esoteric to figure out at first, but, like all technology, becomes
second nature with some persistence. It's locked up in a see-thru box
and has lasted years.
Our users can pick from six still images for their background.
Under-the-sea is wildly popular, as is the on-the-moon image and the
weather map. I've seen many small groups engage in improvisational
narratives, acting as characters, moving from scene to scene.
Our exhibit is presented as a demonstration of chromakey technology, so
we provide chromakey green capes, in which a visitor can shroud
themselves to become invisible--or a floating head, or what-have-you.
This room is adjacent to our TV studio exhibit, and the chromakey has a
live feed into the mixer there. Visitors put on a mock TV news
program, and can actually switch over to weather, or live reporting
from under-the-sea or on-the-moon. It's really fun, and is a favorite
of many visitors.
You'll definitely get the WOW you're seeking.
