Athough I often find Barenboim workmanlike and less than inspiring (his DG
cycle of Beethoven piano sonatas being my most recent encounter with his
work) it is not necessarily surprising that he conducts Wagner, joining
Hermann Levi (Wagner's own choice to premier Parsifal), Gustav Mahler,
Bruno Walter, Georg Solti, and James Levine among the ranks of prominent
Jewish conductors of Wagner.
