The University of West Florida Department of Anthropology is searching
for a Historic Preservation Archaeologist to teach CRM and related
sponsored research. Special aspects of our program and this position:

 

*	$1 million of new recurring program funding in 2006 
*	Archaeology is a "signature program" at UWF with strong support
by the administration as well as in the local community and region 
*	Historic Preservation Program is at the Masters level 
*	Strong ties to History and regular joint research. 
*	Rapid program growth in all our units: the Department,
Archaeology Institute, and the state-wide Florida Public Archaeology
Network 
*	We have approximately 100 undergraduate majors in Anthropology
and 45 Masters students, 70% of which are specializing in Archaeology,
primarily Historical Archaeology 
*	Great graduate student support of over $200,000 each year and
new full-ride 3-year assistantships 
*	New partnerships are currently forming throughout the state in
archaeology and historic preservation 

 

The position can be either a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor or
a 12 month non-tenured Research Associate starting August 2008. We are
seeking an Anthropologically trained archaeologist experienced in
cultural resource management to teach half-time (3 courses a year) in
the Anthropology Department and develop grants and contracts in the
Archaeology Institute. The position will be a joint appointment with the
Department of Anthropology and Archaeology Institute Teaching
responsibilities include existing undergraduate and graduate courses in
cultural resource management (historic preservation), occasional field
classes, and other related courses.  Research responsibilities include
developing sponsored historic preservation-related projects that support
students in the Archaeology and Historic Preservation programs.
Interdisciplinary work with the History Program is required. Serving on
and chairing graduate committees is also required.  

 

Successful applicants must have a PhD in hand, CRM project management
experience, and have a strong commitment to teaching at both
undergraduate and graduate levels. CRM management experience is a MUST.
Our students need to be taught by a practitioner and prepared for the
real work of consulting.
