I personally was totally surprised by the movie's ending which I didn't see 
coming at all:


[WARNING - if you have not seen the movie you may not want to read this] 
Although Gates does get a finder fee, he feels that the material history of 
the past belongs all people so he makes sure that that happens.


Very un-Indiana Jones.
