one of the arguments i keep using against a lot of the museum displays i see is that - since the stuff we dig up is so rarely an artistic treasure - there is no sense displaying it as though it was
people get excited by the past when we relate it to them, & their lives
a pile of grown archaeologists have just been waxing lyrical over the cheap toys & games they played when they were kids; someone mentioned how an audience also got all misty-eyed over some account -
maybe we should aim more for the viscera when making our case, stop being so airy-fairy intellectual in arguing for more funding, etc.
