Just had to comment....  First, about playing Jacks....  the idea was to
scatter the jacks, then start with "onesies", taking just one jack on the
single bounce of a ball until they were all gone, then the next player had a
turn.  The game progressed to twosies, threesies, etc until you concluded by
taking all of them on a single bounce.  Any mistake or miss, and the next
player had a turn.  You could also alternate and start with twos, then
fours. Girls played marbles too, and our "steelies" were really ball
bearings, gathered from various mechanical sources.  "Glassies"  were called
"clearies".  (Perhaps it was regional?)  No one bothered with TV because
there wasn't anything on in the daytime to speak of.... and I just put
myself firmly in the category of an Elder!
