Would a crane company lift and hold a birthday hat above its head for a day?
Great PR if they have an idle crane.  A big tow truck might do if the whale
is low to the ground.

A hot air balloon - if there's room to tether it and if it is protected from
wind.

A helicopter is probably out - depending on the location. Also it leaves the
problem of how to attach the hat.

An inflatable hat.  You could make one on the cheap by taping together
plastic sheeting and using a large blower to inflate.

As a last resort - project the hat on any flat structure behind the whale.
Or, mount a candle in its mouth?

Invite the press for "Squid cake"  Or, at least make a giant squid - the
whales favorite treat.

Now HERE'S a query you won't hear every day...



Our museum's icon is a concrete/steel, life-sized model of Connecticut's
state animal that sits outside the building: a (male) sperm whale. "Connie"
measures ~60 feet long. This summer marks his 30th birthday, so to speak, so
for an event we're planning a bd bash for the big guy. (Who, btw, won't
admit to being over 29.)



I thought "You know what would be unspeakably funny, plus guarantee all
kinds of photos in the press? Have the whale wear a birthday hat!"



So, any suggestions on how to get a colorful, pointy and very large birthday
hat on something that big?
