You have to be a bit clearer here.
There was archaeology paid for and sponsored by the Fascist states to
support their particular views – Mussolini had an obsession with Augustus
and sponsored much archaeological work that glorified Augustus.
There were also various archaeologists, rumoured to be paid agents of the
CIA, involved in Chile opposing the elected Marxist government there – I
stress this is only a rumour though.
But in terms of the history of archaeological ideas, in one sense Marxist
archaeology stood in the same camp as processual in arguing that the facts
simply do not speak for themselves (as opposed to a “Wiggish” view of the
past) but separate from processual in its emphasis on the social and
political relationships and structures in understanding the past.
Of course it all depends on which “Brand” of Marxism you are talking about.
