There is a great ghost sign in San Diego, California that depicts a 1920s  
racing car and the driver is wearing a World War I pilot's hat and goggles.  
Milford Wayne Donaldson, FAIA, convinced the owner to preserve it and got the  
news hawks to do a story about 20-years ago. I seem to recall the colors were  
white and green, but it has been a while since I saw it. Donaldson is now the  
California SHPO.
