Back in July 2005 I noted that the six-disc Naxos set of Schubert string
quartets seemed to be missing the 5th. I E-mailed Naxos, and they said
that the disc would be released near the end of 2006.
Are any of you in a disc-buying funk, like I am, with the demise of
Tower? Seems my "to buy" list is growing by the day but I'm finding it
harder to pull the trigger. I have a feeling it's because I'm not able
to rummage through a large inventory to compare alternate versions or
to make a spur of the moment purchase.
Anyway, I was walking through a store the other day and what do you
know: There was disc 7 of the Kodaly Quartet's Schubert cycle. Which
store stocked this non-mainstream, non-crossover disc by a dead white
European male? None other than Borders, not generally known for having
a huge inventory. I'm still in shock.
