Archaeological Research Manager

The Department of Archaeology and Landscapes at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar
Forest, a nationally-recognized historic site with an ongoing program of
archaeological research now in its eighteenth year, has an immediate opening
for an archaeological research manager. In conjunction with the department
director, the successful candidate will oversee and implement all phases of
archaeological research relating to Poplar Forest and to undertake
occasional projects off of the property. 

 Job responsibilities include planning and implementing field and laboratory
research, directing collections management and curation,  report writing,
supervising staff, volunteers, and interns, assisting in instruction of
students participating in annual archaeological field schools and seminars,
participating in public programs on- and off-site, and developing exhibits.
The successful candidate must possess strong organizational, communication,
and computer skills as well as excellent skills in excavation and material
culture analysis of the historic period in the mid-Atlantic.  Experience
with GIS and relational databases a plus. MA or Ph.D. in anthropology,
archaeology, or related discipline is preferred. Some weekend work is
required.

 The Corporation for Jefferson's Poplar Forest offers a compensation package
that includes competitive pay, medical coverage, retirement plan, and paid
vacation, sick, and holiday leave. The salary will be commensurate with the
applicant's credentials, experience, and market forces.
