when I do stratigraphy drawings, I start with a paper sketch taken from
known elevations.
I then apply a glue stick to a place on the drawing, and smear some of the
soil matrix on the sheet for grain size, inclusion description and Munsell
Color Chart comparison. I also take a film can full of sample soil to better
describe this material in the lab. I then (generally) roll a sheet of mylar over
the wall and use a Sharpie to mark the delineations, rocks, rodent holes,
etc. and compare it to the paper version. Oh, I know, it is not as fancy as the
Harris Matrix, but it works.
