Just joined this list as a result of someone passing on a message on this topic. FYI,
in response to Browning's comment, the Embrey Dam project on the Rappahannock
R. in Virginia, has been subject to extensive consultation with the Virginia SHPO,
including a Memorandum of Agreement which provides for HABS/HAER
documentation of both Embrey Dam and the inundated crib dam, archaeological
investigations connected to the Rappahannock Canal (Turner's Canal) and ongoing
monitoring of the removal work, which will continue until at least 2006. The Habs/
Haer documentation should be available in a few months, and the archaeological
reports will be available after the work is completed. I'll be glad to respond to any
