I took part in a survey here in the UK a couple of years ago, and the
instructions I was given were to cut out a 2-inch square of capped brood, and leave
it in the freezer for, I think, 48 hours (I can't find the original
instructions). Less than this couldn't be guaranteed to kill the brood. I'm sure
somebody will put me right if my memory's at fault.
