James City County, Virginia (adjacent to Williamsburg) has just completed a
new municipal sports complex. It is currently named the James City County
Sports Complex at Warhill (rolls off the tongue, eh?). The county solicited
new name suggestions from residents, and the names of TWO historical
archaeologists were suggested as possibilities by numerous respondents.
Anyone up for some batting practice at Bill Kelso Stadium?
How about watching a game at Ivor Noel Hume Field?
The people who suggested them as possible namesakes readily acknowledged how
much their work has done for the area. Hume, in particular, was referred to
as contributing more than any other person save Nelson Rockefeller.
Peace,
Carl
