Please forgive xposting.
We are organizing a symposium for the meetings of the Society for Applied
Anthropology in Vancouver, British Columbia (May 28-April 2, 2006). The topic
is fairly broad, but the idea is to get museum folks, education types,
anthropologists, archaeologists, historians, general CRMers, and other tribal
and agency folks together to share how we are doing CRM.
**Note the abstract deadline.
**Note you must submit abstracts to SfAA _as well as_ Diane or I.
**Please forward this to anybody else you think might be interested as well.
Thanx for your consideration.

Changing Cultural Resource Management to meet First Nations' Priorities
Indigenous groups of North America have reclaimed the prerogative to present
and study their history based on their priorities. The requirements of
cultural heritage laws and government-to-government consultation integrate
First Nations' interests into modern cultural resource management practices.
Improving economic positions of North American tribes and businesses has also
led to opportunities to reclaim control over the way precontact and contact
history is presented to the general public through cultural heritage
programs, stewardship programs, cultural resource managers and museums.
If you would like to be part of this symposium, the abstract deadline is
Ocober 15. You will need to send a copy of your abstract to Margan Grover
([log in to unmask]) or Diane Hanson
([log in to unmask]), and register for the conference and submit your
abstract with them as well. Co-authors will need to register individually.
Instructions about registering and abstract submission can be found at
http://www.sfaa.net/sfaa2006/2006instruct.html.
For more information about the symposium please contact Margan Grover or
Diane Hanson at the e-mail addresses above.
