Just a query to colleagues concerning Turkish pottery on colonial
North American sites. We have recovered in St. Mary's City, MD
fragments of two matching vessels of pottery made in Kutahya, Turkey.
We first recovered fragments in excavations in the 1970s but have
recently returned to the site and found more fragments. I am familiar
with the material from Williamsburg (Raleigh and Weatherburn taverns)
and from Atlantic Canada (Louisburg and Canso) but was wondering
if it has been encountered on other colonial sites in North America.
I am also interested in its occurrence on site in Europe, especially the UK.
