There must be some value in mining copper, as I have seen enormous copper
mines south of Tucson, Arizona and Bisbee, Arizona and also outside of Salt Lake
City, Utah. The latter has a fantastic little community of houses called
"Coppertown," where the miner's families lived. The Craftsman style architecture is
fascinating and built to reflect the affluence of the miners. Someone really
ought to do an anthropological study of these copper towns.

On the other hand, I lost a bundle investing in a Phillipines copper mine
about 20 years ago.
