I think the first move should have been to contact the shipper and see if
they would remedy the situation. It would certainly be in their interest not
to have their name smeared all over the internet.
Seocondly, if you really think you have been shipped African bees, you
should report them to the local authorities. Have the bees analyzed because
in many states, it is against the law to ship African bees in.
If the bees ARE found to be AHB, the shipper is at fault, and they should
compensate you. If not, it's not fair to suggest that they are.
Finally, there is no real proof that African bees will handle mites better
in areas outside the tropics. You see, the effect may have more to do with
tropical climate than the bees themselves, so if you get them up into the
northern states, they actually may do poorly.
