For me the most impressive thing about the attempt, was that the 'Black
bees@ were so docile.

The were the 'Galtee Strain' which Micheál MacGiolla Coda has bred for
productivity over the years. The proof of their docility is shown by the
fact that Micheál was completely unprotected whilst he moved to and fro
carrying skeps of bees and emptying them near Philip McCabe.

The weather conditions were not perfect with a cold North wind to start with
making the bees slow to move onto Philip.
