ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

We are opening a retro-fitted building next year with a small full-dome
video planetarium. Right now we are considering the pricing structure
regarding the shows in the dome (mainly planetarium style shows). We know
some science centers charge extra for planetarium shows, while others give
it to their public for free with general admission.
So, we are wondering if there are any people out there who have experience
with both a science center that has charged separately for its planetarium
shows, and with a science center that has free planetarium admission with
general admission. If you have experience with both admission policies, we
would love to hear the pros and cons from your perspective on each policy.
Perhaps even more critically, does anyone out there know of a science museum
that has changed it's pricing structure with its planetarium or full-dome
video. I don't mean just raising the price, I mean going from giving free
admission, to charging a separate admission price, or vice-versa. If so, do
you know why the science museum changed its pricing structure?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can give us on this issue.
