Thanks to all of you who responded to my water-less exhibit query.
Although we know that water can be wonderful and engaging, we are trying to
avoid the maintenance/mess issues that water can bring, and also are just
trying to think "out-of-the-box" about how a river can be represented. I'm
excited to research some of the museum exhibits and materials
mentioned...and may contact some of you directly with specific questions
depending on the path we decide to take. As someone who has been a quiet
observer on the list_serv for some time, I appreciate your help!

Jane, depending on what you are trying to show, the rheoscopic fluid
made by Kalliroscope might work. This is the stuff you see in exhibits
like Ned Kahn's fluvial orb. When moving, it reveals turbulence
patterns, eddies, and other flow patterns in great detail, and can be
sealed between two sheets of glass (in fact, is almost always used that
