  Fixed-term, full-time position

SUMMARY
The Coalition for Science After School is a group of 50 national
organizations committed to expanding opportunities for high quality science
programs for youth participating in after-school programs. The Coalition
was formed in 2004, at a National Science Foundation-funded conference
organized by the Exploratorium, the Lawrence Hall of Science, and
TERC. The Coalition focuses on policy, advocacy, and networking for
strengthening science in after-school settings. It is governed by a
steering committee with representatives from 15 different organizations
(see attached) representing youth development, science education, and
education research organizations. Based on two multi-day meetings, the
Coalition is developing a roadmap for building the infrastructure needed
for supporting and strengthening science in after-school settings

The Exploratorium provides an institutional base, including administrative
support structures, for the Coalition. This position of Director is funded
for 12 months. A primary responsibility of the Director will be to secure
additional funding to support the continuation of the Coalition and the
Directorship. The Director of the Coalition will report to the Associate
Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at the Exploratorium, and
will work closely with the Chair of the Executive Steering Group of the
Coalition, a rotating position currently held by Dr Elizabeth Stage,
Director of the Lawrence Hall of Science. The Director will confer with
the Director of Development at the Exploratorium about fundraising and
development issues.
