ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

A Douglas DC-3 plane is suspending by 3 sling wires to the ceiling I beams
at the Hong Kong Science Museum. The plane weights around 7000Kg without
internal decoration and equipment, except the propellers and their
engines.
However, we are told to have replacement of sling wires twice a year.
Unfortunately, we have to close down the whole area during the working
period and it will have lesser exhibits available to visitor. Though the
legal requirement of inspecting sling wire will be different from place to
place. Nevertheless, I am wondering how is the inspection or survey
program in other museums that have similar heavy hanging objects?
Thank you for your information.
